Fishing on Lake Windermere, Lake District
The Low Wood Hotel has access to some of the best coarse and game fishing in the UK. On the doorstep of the hotel is lake Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District, which offers free fishing for a variety of species. All that is required to fish Windermere is a current Environment Agency rod licence for the particular species you are fishing for. Boats are available for hire at Low Wood Watersports Centre.
Species you may expect to catch
Species regularly caught in Windermere include the wonderful wild brown trout, using most methods. Average brown trout are in the region of 2lb, although Ferox trout over 10lbs are caught each year. The pike fishing is superb with specimens over 30lbs frequently caught, and the lake also has an excellent head of perch and roach. Windermere is famous for its fabulous arctic char. These are caught using trolling spinners and traditional boats and rigs fish daily throughout the season.
Special Permits for hotel guests
Low Wood Hotel also has negotiated two permits to the long established Windermere and Ambleside District Angling Association waters which are available for hotel guests. These offer free fly fishing to its regularly stocked tarns, lakes and rivers around the area. Details of all the waters and the particular type of fishing, are available from the hotel reception.
